in the same size frame, the specialized hardrock has a more conservative, upright riding position than a trek or fisher...so, if you want a more forward, aggressive position, i'd look elsewhere

yay for trying my gf's bike

I'm not sure you are really going to find a bike with a really good front suspension for that price. You are pretty much going to get the lowest quality fork you can get on a starter bike. The only thing worse would be to buy a cheap budget brand from walmart, unless you get a schwinn, which will come with an RST shock, which is about the same as what you would get on any of those bikes.
