I bought a 26 inch mtb wheelset to replace the cheap Weinman rims and hubs that
came on my bike. The bike came with 26 inch Weinman 520 rims and joytech hubs

The CR18 rims I bought are great except I cannot change the tire/tubes on the
side of the road if I need to and so I no longer have the confidence to wander
too far away from home with these rims. I could easily mount anything on
the cheap stock Weinman rims that came on my bike but not so with the
Sun CR18

I have several different wire beaded tires I like to use that are in the range of 1.5 to 1.75

And so I am wanting advice on my next rim purchase to replace the CR18

Would the Aeroheat rim be any kinder to my arthritic hands if I have to fix a
flat on the side of the road?

How thick of a rim strip are you using? The thick, cloth tape rim strips can use up enough space to make changing a tire difficult. Try using the stranded packing tape. It is really thin and works well.

I have Velox rim tape on there now so this afternoon I will have the
LBS take the tire off for me and then I will try and see if I can put it back
on myself with the tape removed.

Well, you have two variables working here...Rim and Tires, so there is no guarantee any rim will be easy with all tires. That said, Mavic rims have been the most consistent over the years IME for ease of mounting tires.

PS-second the strapping tape, 3/4" wide would work great in the CR18

Dump the Velox for strapping tape.
Use the proper technique
