I currently have a XT 750 long cage(i think) rear derailleur. I need a right shifter. I was thinking going with another XT or switching to SRAM Attack trigger. What other choices do i have without switching out a perfectly good derailleur? Also can i shorten the chain since I am only running mid ring? How many links i can remove and still shift good?

Thanks,

either of those shifter choices will be fine. obviously any Shimano shifter will do fine.

you can shorten the chain if you want. read the sticky at the top of the forum. i think the formula is run chain off the derailur around the biggest chain ring and around the largest rear cog. then add 2 links.

The newer XTR and XT shifters with the dual action triggers are sweet!

Since you're only running a single ring up front, all you have to do is shift to the largest cog on the rear and shorten the chain so the derailleur cage is about 45 degrees from the ground.
