What kind of grips are you using w/ your GripShifts?

Looking at several different options for my SRAM GripShifts. ODI Rogue 90mm w/ Lock on's, weight is approx. 90g, also looking at the ESI Chunky grips, weight is approx. 60g.

What are you using, what are the weights, if you know them, and how do they feel? Any recommendations? I have Large hands, so width isn't a real concern. I ride XC and AM.

I know I'm going to get allot of ESI fans. Let me hear from all of you!!!:D

Thanks,

Kevin

I'm using the ODI Rogues on all my bikes except for one which has a pair of the Ruffians. I prefer the size and grip of the Rogues. Before I sold off my Sunn, I had some Ritchey TGVs which were comfy. Judging from your post, you're a weight weenie?
ESI chunky.
They match up well with the diameter of the grip shift. They do twist a bit on my carbon bar if I try real hard. Do not notice them doing that while shifting though. Do NOT use windex to apply. I used plain water. There may be better methods but windex as suggested on their package is not one of them. Don't get white unless you are always using clean gloves.

Another vote for ESI chunkies. I shortened them by about an inch, applied them with rubbing alcohol, on a carbon bar. They've never slipped, and match up nicely with Sram X.0's.
Go to JensonUSA. They have original Grip Shift grips.

Sorry but I had to cringe at those bar ends on the riser bar.
I use a cut off pair on Bontrager basic grips. I like the grip a little smaller than the GripShift grip. A tactile feeling as to where the GripShift is. I tend to ride with my pointer finger/thumb around the GripShift, but hold the bars with my bird/ring/pinky fingers.

Love the looks of the Odi Rogues w/ Red Lock Jaws. As to the weight weenie part, I am and am not. I make weight concessions for strength, function, sometimes looks, but, always try to purchase the lightest, strongest components possible. My bike build is WW and Not WW. You may see allot of WW components, but then you will see some not WW components, like my wheels, and cranks.

Thanks for the reply,

Kevin
Thanks everyone! I ordered a pair of Esi Chunkies, but, also may order a pair of Odi Rogue's w/ red Lock Jaws. I just love the look of the Odi's!!!

Just tossing this in here.........I still use 9.0SL shifters, long-style, and just use the stock "cover the rest of the bars, idiot" grips. Rotate a little bit, but heck, I barely touch them anyway. My older bike had X-Ray shifters that I hacked off and used ODI grips on, and I liked them. Comfy and grippy.
I don't use grip shifts anymore, but I did for many years and I honestly always liked the SRAM grips the best. They were comfy, grippy, and lasted pretty well.

Another vote for ESI Chunky

why, with the advent of lock-ons, does anyone use any thing else?

I'm not being accusatory, just wonderin.

I actually tried the lock-on grips when I was still using grip shift but personally did not like the alloy lockring between the grip and the shifters. Having used ESI grips, you seriously don't need lock ons for those. Since I didn't change out bars and such often, I just used 3M Super 77 on my SRAM grips.

If they somehow made a lockon version of the ESI Chunky I would buy it. I haven't found another grip that is as comfy to me. Because of that I can put up with some extra work if I need to remove them

I don't change stuff on the bar either.
I am well familiar w, the air compressor trick for non lock-ons. (I suggest it all the time ;)).
I guess I drank enough koolaid, and it's more of a mental factor.
I have taken off my ends when I'm on a more DH trail, to widen my grip - and that's kinda cool... I guess...
I just put on the 90mm ruffians and used the ESI Chunky before that. The ESI were fine, but I felt like trying something new.
I really didn't like the lock ring between my grip and the shifter either, like mentioned in a post above.
I just removed those rings and dremmeled the tabs off the grip. They still hold tight with only the outside lock ring and I like the shifter - grip interface much better.

I will take some pics tomorrow and post them.
