The title says it all. I want the largest tire I can fit and figured am not the first so what have you found to work on the 09 Giant Trance X 3.

not sure if ill be much help but ive never had any problems running any 2.35 tires that i have tried...so far i have run nevegals, sb8, high rollers, and ignitors all in the 2.3-2.35 size with no issues..not sure how big your trying to go tho...

Nevegal 2.35's on my 09 X2; no issues even with the PacNW mud.
Fat tires work great on this bike.

I seem to remember someone saying he couldn't get 2.5s on.

I would bet that 2.35 is near the largest you can get while still having acceptable clearance.

depends not all 2.5's are equal,i'd bet a weirwolf 2.55 would probabely fit,it's really only about the size of a 2.3 or so.

I tried a 2.4 Maxxis ADvantage and it was a no go, the volume is way to high so the tire is too tall. I have a 2.35 nevegal at home so its nice to know that will fit.

yeah the 2.35 nev fits and works pretty well for this bike as an all-arounder. I'm going to throw a 2.35 SB8 on the rear this summer and see if the decreased rolling resistence is worth the decreased grip...

Bontrager Big Earl 2.5 fits okay, but admittedly not much clearance. Its probably a smaller 2.5
