What Freeride bike to buy?

4104 Views 25 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  jpine93
I've been searching around the forums and i've seen a bunch of bike names but don't really know what are the good brands. I'm about 6 - 6'1 tall... If anyone can give me a list of brand name bikes that are good that would be nice... I would like to buy something around 2k, but would also like to see what is more expensive, just in case....

Thanks

The Giant Reign X2 would be a good place to start looking. It's trail / uphill ridable freeride bike that has a lot of bang for the buck. But get the X1 if you can afford it ... it's cheaper to sink a little more cash in now than upgrade. A Kona Coiler or Jamis XAM are also worth looking at.
Reign X1

I have a Large Reign X1 in the classifieds. It is in near perfect condition, but needs a fork. It has a PUSHed rear shock and a couple other upgrades.

It is a great bike, I just have not been able to ride it..... hence the sale. If any of you are interested shoot me a PM or check out the ad.

Thanks,
TG
I'm going to agree with the Reign X as well.
Here's mine:

Chose this after evaluating the following: Intense Tracer VP, Nomad, Reign X, Motolite!

Really glad I went with the Endorphin!

+/- $2k budget? ping me.... there's a smattering of Marin Quakes available on close-out...
That glory is really nice, But from what i've read its 10lbs or so heavier than a Giant Reign x1. Is it worth the extra weight?
haro x7 light, strong easy to throw around. love mine.
Wicked spendy, but the Cove STD is awsome. Not so spendy is the Demo 7. Both are way more than 2k. Find something used.
2009 reign x1 or 2008? or does it matter all that much?
I dont think youd be disappointed in the 08. I just got a used 08 and Im loving it.

Edit My bike on a ride today.

Very little difference from what I see. I think you will be happy with the Maestro floating pivots. I bought a 05' Faith off ebay for like $1500 and it was a great buy. Look into the Faith line. It's more freeride dedicated (rather than all mountain) but I can peddle it fine. They stopped making them in 06' but they should be coming back for 10'. I love mine.

Why is it such a giant fest in here, not a bad thing just saying where's the variety?

You can get a brand new Kona stinky for 2k, I think mongoose makes some nice budget freeride bikes. I know my lbs is blowing out felt redemption 3s for like $1200, super cheap.
cant really find any x1 in large in my area... found this tho...

The 55 fork has some pretty scary reviews. If you can get it for the right price though and have issues its a good platform to upgrade on.
i think you should tell us more about what kinda stuff you plan on riding first. does it need to be pedalable? how big are the stunts you plan on doing (10 ft tabletop jumps, or 35 ft gap jumps?) depending on this, you could go anywhere from something like the reign x or nomad for a smaller AM sided bike to something like a faith or a specialized demo 8
also, for a good list of bikes people have liked, take a look in the review section and sort by most reviews. that will give you a good idea as to what people are riding and how they like them
