What does this mean?

What does is mean when someone says to add MORE high speed compression?

My shock HSC is 3 clicks from fully open, or 5 clicks from fully closed.

Running through a chunky rock garden at speed, I feel like the shock is a tad stiff. I'm wondering if I need to adjust the HSC but am unsure when what the HSC will do if I open more or close more. Some say to REDUCE my HSC but again, that like the term 'adding more.' Not sure what that means.

I'm assuming by adding more, you are making it more stiff? Therefore it would be more open? In my case 2 clicks from fully open, not 3?

Help me out here.

thanks

Do what you think it needs, not what I say it needs!
Compression damping makes your fork compress slower.

Rebound damping makes your fork rebound slower.

More damping is more slow.

For compression sometimes "slower" will be described as "stiffer' because more compression damping also makes your suspension less compliant.
Thanks. So when they say more OPEN, they mean more dampening or stiffer?
Opening the compression means less dampening.
Easier to push the suspension. Is less dampening (open)
Depends on how much you have had to drink.

This am I had a clear understanding. Right now, 5 beer and 2 whiskey in I am second guessing all the advice being given.

Step away from the suspension adjusters sir.
Thanks. So when they say more OPEN, they mean more dampening or stiffer?
Opposite

More damping IS stiffer.

You need to go watch some Tuesday Tune videos on YouTube.

Here's a good guide. Read this and you understand more
pencil paper
repeat runs
one click per run....
you can find out doing repeats
Usually when someone says "add more compression", they mean more compression damping. Meaning turn the compression knob clock-wise, making it stiffer. This would be "damping" (decreasing or slowing) compression.
