Provided brake weights seem to be all over the place. It would be nice if there was a standard to state the weight as lever+hose+caliper for front and rear, rotors being separate. But it seems like some manufacturers provide the weight of the front brake set, including the rotor instead.

So can anyone tell me what the following breaks actually weight for a full bike, minus the rotors (or tell me where I can find this information consistently?):

  • Shimano XT M8100 Race
  • Shimano XTR M9000 Race
  • Shimano XTR M9100 Race
  • Formula R1R
  • Magura MT8SL
  • SRAM Level Ultimate
  • Hope Tech 3 X2

THANKS!

Your best bet is to look up reviews where they publish weights, and put them in a spreadsheet.
Also R2 weighs everything and lists actual weights in their descriptions.

If you're looking for a super accurate weight it can be tough to pinpoint. Most manufacturers provide a longer than needed hose which gets trimmed to the correct length, usually after it's already routed internally on modern frames. Not many people are going to stop at that point, remove the hose from the frame and weigh it.

Someone with a Small frame is going to have a much shorter hose than me on an XL, this will slightly impact the weight.

I agree, you will have to seek out reviews that show weights of rotors, calipers, levers, etc and put it into a spreadsheet. It will take time. Some manufacturers provide weights for individual components like this, I would also reference the manufacturers websites.

If you end up putting in the effort you should come back and share the info for others here with the same questions.

Or weigh before install/routing and then weigh the trimmed off housing and subtract?

;-)

Yeah, that would be much more logical approach.

(you can tell how much time I spend weighing components...)

Sweet info! Thank you. Weights you posted with rotors or without?

Wonder how the Hope Evo X2s compare to the Tech 3s. Evos looks much smaller.

Tech 3 refers to the Hope lever. X2, E4, V4, these are the calipers. That evo race lever is probably the only difference in that older brakeset?

IME, Hope hydraulic mechanical advantage isn't great, they kind of make up for this a bit with longer lever blades (more mechanical advantage). The Tech 3 lever is very nice as far as quality and adjustability. I love how it firmly snaps back into place with each squeeze.

Those are brakes with clamps and no caliper mounting bolts for frame. Because you can technically get Ti bolts for any of these. My mt6s has aluminum bolts!

I found a some scale pictures of older mt8s that were a little lighter. Circa 2015 edition.

Wait until you look at Trickstuff.

Nonetheless. They are supposed to be amazing and provide decades of use.

And they are freezing orders and restructuring. Hope to be back making brakes in Spring 2021

I have some Picollas, they are nice. I replaced older XTs and the pair weighed just over what the rear XT weighed. And they feel oh so smooth.

I've had Piccola HDs on order since September. Only another year to go!
It's a waiting game with these things but they do seem to be the best.

My kits take about that much time. I just keep ordering, and eventually they show up.

I can buy the best and wait, or buy a pretty good one that will never be as good. :)

Check www.bike-components.de every once and a while. I randomly caught the the piccola hd in stock there two months ago. You may get luckly and skip the wait.
