Ok, I know what I bought. These came on bikes in the mid 80's and I bought it to put on a friends mid 80's Bridgestone MB5. Anybody know the particulars of this shock? Is it adjustable and, if so, how? I assume it's coil but is it in an oil bath? Any maintenance tips? Anything that anyone knows about this shock would be appreciated. Looks to be in great shape. I'll know more when I get it. Thanks for your help.

I hope you meant mid 90s... I'm quite certain those were not around in the 80s. Actually, not much of any suspension, especially on Bridgestones, was around in the 80s. If i remember correctly, they were coil spring only... no damping besides friction. Others will know more than i will. I just wanted to flag the date thing.

Honestly, your friend's bridgestone will handle better with a better rigid fork than with a suspension like that one.

Yep, you caught me just about to do an edit. Also found out they were probably elastomer. Found an old article with a google search from Bicycling magazine and, lo and behold, in 1994 a Tange Struts GS was spec'd on the MB5. Who'd a thunk? Yeah, it would probably ride better with it's original fork but he wants a period boinger and this should fit the bill.

More investigation reveals it's a Struts S because it's got a tig welded crown. It came on the MB4. The MB5 had the Struts G which had a bulge formed crown. They're definitely elastomer. Many thanks to Sheldon Brown. He had a 1994 Bridgestone catalog on his site with a lot of info.
