So 4 months after the crash...sprained the back, and I was doing sm rides about 2 weeks later and just kept riding......my massage therapist has said enough is enough...off the bike for at least 4 weeks. When I was off for 10 days about 2 weeks ago due to the cold and she started to work through the restricted areas and I was having some nice pain free days, but as soon as it warmed up, back at it I was, and back to the pain soooo, thats it for a while. And after being super excited to ride all winter and i just bought all my gear, this really sucks. Oh well it could be May or June and so far I am aloud to snowboard still. So off to heal I go and (because she said I have to) swimming (anything to get back on the bike)...what about if i get new stuff at Christmas...it will be a long 4 weeks..Lets hope thats all..not 6 or 8. Yep, it sucks that healing can take so long. Be patient and you will get there. Good luck. Diversion therapy works well. Since I'm not riding now, I go hiking. It's not the same but it help keep the legs going and gets me out on the trails, it just not fast enough while hiking.

How about Spinning or riding on a trainer? I would think that the biggest issue with mt biking is the pure physicality required of the upper body.

If you have cycling classes in your area, you might try that out. And try some of that hydrotherapy. Any reason to get in a hot tub is a good one.

Oh no! Very sad to hear this.

Take care with your back! It's not like you can just order a new carbon spine and bolt it in with Ti bolts, eh? You only have one - treat it well.

I hope you have a speedy recovery (again). :)
