Hi,

I just helped a friend install x-9 shifters and front and rear derailleurs on his mtb. We treaked the rears in for the most part. However, the front shifts from small cog to big cog fine (with a stop at the middle ring) but in the other direction it jumps directly from big ring to granny without stopping at the middle ring. The limits seem to be fine and the position of the derailleur seems ok too.

I'm mysified. I hope the shifter is ok. It's gonna be a pain to send it back.

i'd check cable tension first.

when in the middle ring, put it on the smallest cog in the rear. is the chain rubbing the outside cage of the derailleur? if so, tight cable tension a little.

is the FD aligned properly with respect to the chainrings?
