My rear wheel has started making this weird clicking sound. After intense troubleshooting I discovered that there is a small metal block under the weld seam that is sliding back and forth making the noise. Will this hurt anything?

A little back ground info. This wheelset is about six years old. the rim is a Mavic X317 disk, DT alloy nips, champion 14G spokes, CK ISO hub. It was built by mean Todd at web cyclery and has never needed to be trued.

Basically what I'm asking about this wheelset is do I have a slight nuisance or a problem? Also has anyone ever had or heard of this?

I have heard of alot of people having that problem to the best of my knowledge I have never heard of it causing a failure. I know some people that had it break off and start rattling around inside the rim and still no failures.
