Weekly Ride Reports 7/24 - 7/30 Staying motivated

How do you keep the fire burning? Probably a bad choice of words with the chaos going on up in the mountains. Looks like Quincy is in the crosshairs this weekend if the winds get out of control. By the end of the day today I should have sold all the bikes I had on offer including my Levo SL. My Epic is all done with the 9point8 dropper and carbon Sworks saddle installed, 23.1 lbs ready to roll. Taking it out for a little shakedown between bike sales today then out for another 8 hours from home tomorrow. Have a great week all!

First time for me riding my non-ebike since January, and even before that I wasn't riding it. (Maybe 1 or 2 times in the last 9 months). I was fully committed for this to be its last ride and was planning to strip all the good parts off it this weekend and sell it. But it was actually really fun. It handles the big holes and compressions so much better than my ebike. Partly because the weight, and partly because I still believe the enduro is a top tier long travel bike. Hmmm… Now what. If I could get my hands on a Kenevo SL I think that would be the best solution. But also, have you seen those prices?!?

I went the other way and built up an ultralight Epic to make the transition to non E easier and boy it works great. Getting my non assisted fitness back one ride at a time. Just a quick couple laps around Bear today.

I may be picking up a Kenevo, if not I'll wait for the new SL ( hopefully) this fall/winter.

I got all inspired by Dan's epic last week to roll an epic ride around Demo Nisene today but my desire was stronger than my will to survive. Goal was to roll from demo into Nisene and then loop back and hit all the downhills (Ridge, Corral, Sawpit, Flow, and Braille). I rolled down pig, bacon and a not to be named here trail. Rolled up Big Slide from the depths and the fire road back up to Demo feeling pretty good. (helped that I stashed my fanny pack full of water up top). Rolled down Corral but the climb back up sorta sapped me (hot). Rolled down Sawpit with my shock locked out (again...I suck at that) and that did me in. Slogged back to the van and called it a day.

At the dirt lot up top, Cal-Fire Ranger/Sherrif were perched at the gate where the porta-potty is. Josh: "You guys holding an eBike sting today". Law: "Yup". Josh: "Well good thing I didn't ride my eBike today". Law: chuckle. I then rolled up to two guys lounging next to their eBikes. I asked if they got a ticket and they said they just got a warning. That's pretty cool of Law actually.

Even though I failed, still managed 28 miles and 5,246 footies on my adapted Stumpjumper comp which ain't bad I guess (putting a Fox 36 on it tomorrow). Moto tomorrow and my Kenevo got a new fork...just when I thought I couldn't cheat harder, this thing came along. Butter! Cheers.

RV parking at Gualala Redwoods. Begged an hour and rode up the river a bit. 4yo girl twin is riding by herself with no Dad launch as of Thursday. Boy twin has the skills but hasn't put them together quite yet. That's ok, he's got his ABC's down and starting to read while she… doesn't.

Santa Cruz day for me yesterday. 5 laps total from the Rincon parking lot, if you include a spur of the moment decision to trek over to ride Enchanted for the first time. Fun trail, will ride again. Other than that, I was hitting all the trails that start behind the tanks, nothing but smiles. Half-decent gopro footage. 19 miles, 4300 vertical.

You guys are killing me with Kenevo talk. Tried to sell mine briefly when the SL came out, figuring I could trade up and use the Kenevo to cut the price in half (who needs a Kenevo AND a KSL?). LBS in Campbell probably sold their banana slug SL already, I'd be surprised if it were still in the window. Ah well, the full fat Kenevo rolls so great, the KSL is probably nothing more than a side-step to the Kenevo, for several kilobucks more. I kept my Z1, but put a smashpot in there. As you say. Butter

Oh, another first for me, you know the 'up' singletrack just south of the parking lot on your way to the fireroad, you know how it ends with a 5 foot drop if you choose to do that instead of ride the last 10 yards to the end? stoke was so high this trip and was looking at that drop over and over and over, so said **** it and went for it on the last trip up. Fun! ....wish I did that earlier when I wasn't so tired....

Another big all day effort from home, this time with the added bonus of up Loma Prieta to the old Rattlesnake fireroad, can't really recommend it unless you are a glutton for punishment. Cheers y'all!

When I rode a Kenevo SL it felt like a slightly heavier enduro with a motor. Heck, my enduro is 35lbs, and the KSL I rode was 41lbs. Definitely more similar to that than a standard ebike, and in a completely different category of bike that won't be for everyone.

Sufferfest at Rockville in the hot sun, but pretty sweet having the park to ourselves. My M.O. is usually 8am or so. Lunch starts make for a pretty chill morning lounging at home.

Just another boring Long Ridge ride, same route as last time. Upgraded my dropper post from an OG Crank Bros. Joplin (a whopping 3" of travel!) to a 125mm KS Lev. Much nicer! Cleaned 3 of the 4 uphill switchbacks on Peters Creek trail; a few weeks ago I walked them all. Wasn't brave enough to try the downhill, powdery loose, stairstep style switchbacks on Long Ridge trail, this week anyway.

my regular bike was also heavy before I started a weight weenie project, 36 lb. no stranger to heavy bikes here! (I'm a stranger to light ones though!)

Alpine to Paige Meadows, up through Tahoe City, and down Missing Link and Western States yesterday. Smoky and 90°. Definitely painful.

Newly finished TAMBA Stanford Rock trail on Saturday. Super fast, with good flow all the way down.

Yikes! I drove through Truckee early Sunday and was considering riding Jackass, but it was CRAZY smoky. I even passed on riding in Auburn as it had some lingering smoke as well. Hopefully, your lungs aren't feeling it today!
Me: "What do you feel like riding today, Wilder, Henry Cowell, UC, Aptos, Demo?"

Mtbrdan: "Yes"

This is how my weekend went 😅 Rode with some OG's at Boggs Saturday morning and spent Sunday doing a coastal trip with my wife as the kids are with grandparents.

Just like mtbrdan I built up a new lighter-weight short travel trail bike to get me off the e-bike more and riding a "real" mtb to get the fitness back up.

Also checked out the new Stanford Rock, it's pretty sweet. The Ward Canyon TRT descent was fun too:

what strap are you using for the tube, and do you think it can hold a tube, levers, pump, AND multitool? Or just tube and levers
Not sure the aluminum 50t Funn Slingshot was built for eBike power...almost cost me dearly! Worked great on my Stumpy before..
