Way O.T.: Any movie buffs out there? Re: The China Syndrome

Was it Jack Lemon's character in The China Syndrome that kept excusing himself to make an" important phone call "...and it turns out he was really calling his home number because he rigged his telephone to feed his tropical fish? Does anyone know? I have a bet with my buddy...he says it was a TV private investigator (Mannix or the Rockford Files). Maybe I have the wrong movie?
