I just bought a Anthem X2 and need a water bottle cage for XC/24 Hour races...

1. I want it to actually work...it needs to hold bottles...I don't want dropped bottles.

2. I want it to be as lite as possible...titanium or carbon i assume.

Please tell me what brand/model to buy...thanks.

I had given up on water bottle cages for my mountain bike because they never seemed to work, but recently tried a Bontrager X-Lite because I was doing a long, self-supported endurance event and needed to carry all I could. My local shop guys told me the Bontrager would work--I didn't believe them but decided to try it anyway. And they were right. I survived two days in Pisgah and the bottle never came out.

Get the Ti King Cage. A carbon cage will break if you lay the bike down the wrong way. While not the lightest, an Elite Cuissi Gel has always worked well. Remember, a bottle cage is static weight-you are not going to get any performance gains from the little weight saved. You'll help the bling factor with the ti cage, and maybe a tenth of a pound off the scale, if you are lucky. Better to have something sturdy that won't break.

After going thru half a dozen Profile kage cages in two months, I jokingly asked my LBS about a Lifetime warranty on a carbon cage. Low and behold the Blackburn CF cage. Fairly lite at 30 grams but most importantly!!! Life time warranty.
