Well, after 5 weeks, i have a replacement for my 2002 Rainier, which cracked at the headtube/downtube area.
Here is how things went:
22 august: Took giant rainier in for warranty.
24 august: Tested Trance 4.
25 august: Tested NRS C2.
29 august: Getting ready to send frame away. $40/h to build.
02 september: over $$$ to ship frame. Getting ready to ship...
16 september: I call to check up. Shop has heard nothing from Giant.
22 september: Dad stops by shop. Apparently my frame has been shipped.
28 september: Frame built! Need other FD...
29 september: Drop off a bottom swing FD, and the bike is mine!
Waiting time=37 days.
So now i am the owner of a shiny, new, red, float R equipped, 20.5" 2005 NRS frame.
Components are from my Rainier, so the bike is at about the level of an NRS 3. The bike does not seem to have gained much weight.
Total cost to me: $1122.17 CAD.
$879.99 for frame upgrade.
$7.48 RD casing.
$45 labour.
$43.33 Freight.
+Tax.
That is just under what it cost me for my Rainier.
Other: My 30.8 seatpost seemed a little bit loose in the NRS so I shimmed it with an aluminum can. The bike's warning sticker says to make sure that you have a minimum of 80mm of seatpost insertion, and the shim is 90mm, so I think that might work out ok.
Now, I need to ride it, and hopefully I will be very happy.
