There are lots of good xc trails there. See the STAB web site for information. (Sport Trails of the Ascutney Basin I think). www.stabvt.org/

I mean the trails in the state park.

Go to the state park page and click on the second link down "Ascutney State Park Recreation Map & Guide". The map that pops up has a section titled Guidelines & Regulations that says "Trails are for foot travel only. ATVs and mountain bikes are not permitted in the park or on the trail system."

So I guess the answer is that there are trails on and around Mt. Ascutney to ride, just not within the State Park. Then again, the trails I have hiked within the State Park seemed mostly/totally unrideable, so no big loss- you have alternatives nearby.

For one reason only, you don't want to try to ride the trails in the State Park- hikers. The trails are full of slow old folks, families with fat kids and stupid dogs, etc. Not much fun as far as I can imagine.

If you love pain, they have a hillclimb race up the paved road every summer.

Rob our State moves very slowly when it comes to allowing access on state land. We have been trying to get access to Little River State park over the last number of years and have finally started to make some progress. We have had some successfull programs with the State with trails in Waterbury and Camels Hump State forest, but they are still moving slowly on letting us expand in other areas.
