Every spring, I push the conditions a little too much and head up into the hills and try and forge my way through snowdrifts to the top of the hills out behind town. Usually, it's a bit of a pain, with snow and mud clogging the derailleurs and drive train and I'm only willing to put up with it once a season. This year it was different -- I now have a Rohloff equipped bike and it performed flawlessly. It's amazing how much less crap sticks to the bike when you get rid of derailleurs. I was also pleased with how well the bike did on the (relatively) long climbs -- the lower, "noisier" gears weren't distracting or inefficient. I probably spent as much as a mile riding the crust of the snow, and only occasionally breaking through. I think I’ll have to head up there again this weekend...
