Went to bed last night after drinking, thinking that I'd just skip my planned ride in the morning. Well, I woke up at 5:20am, grabbed my testes and rolled out. I'm VERY glad I did. Having already ridden bootleg I drove across town to the more mellow and XC oriented blue diamond area. When I lived here these were 20 minutes from my house and were what re-kindled my love for riding and kept me sane and grounded during the alternating craziness and drudgery that was my Vegas life.

I started at the blue diamond bike outpost and rode to the upper parking lot via the duck trail. My bike and my fitness are upgraded since my last visit. Lightweight 29er wheels were powered by 32/18 gearing and legs strong enough to keep seated for most of the ride. :D

From there I continued up to the turnout for Viagra. I told myself there was a scorpion on my brake levers which made a nice no touch descent. The racing ralphs are a bit sketch on loose stuff in case any locals were thinking they'd like lighter tires. Don't do it!

I headed out through the red dirt and fast sections. The bike park feel is still there. Flats for speed, whoops and someone was nice enough to build a fun little jump that I hit several times before moving on.

As the trail turned back towards town, I found that I was sharing the trail with the local wildlife. Its fairly rare to see the desert tortoise but riders will occasionally catch one moving across the trails. This guy wasn't too trusting but he did pop his head out after I waited quietly for a bit.

I made my way back over the BFR, still one of my favorite tech spots ever despite how easy it is. Back up the high road and I gave myself a little bonus climb and took the back way down into town.

Back at the car in typical Vegas summer fashion it was in the 80's around 8am. Only gets hotter from here. I headed off the the polski sklep to get some pierogis and delicje.

It was super fun riding the old trails with my new tools. Although people don't often consider it, there is some really good riding down here in southern nevada. Its been fun, but now its time to escape the heat and head back up to paradise. I'll be on the beach by tomorrow and riding the rim trail monday. :D

Hey nice Steve! Been a long time since I seen one of those. There is something about cottonwood that I just love. I rarely get bored with all the different trails to ride. I guess it helps if you know all the secret ones. You should hit the waterfall trail sometime, it's a blast.

I'm not sure I know where waterfall is, or if I know it by a different name or what. In any case it was just great to ride out there again. I think that in the future I may be taking the car instead of flying more. Its awesome to have a bike and get away from computer screens.

I also saw a team PMF jersey on a roadie driving back. Who was that?
