What’s the best tire combination for dry hardpack, gravel, sandy, rooty XC trails.

29x2.25” or 2.35”

Front/rear
1) Mezcal / Mezcal
2) Barzo / Mezcal
3) Barzo / Peyote

Or any other front/rear combination...

It depends on how deep the gravel & sand is. If it's only a thin surface layer I'd go Mezcal on both ends or Peyote front Mezcal rear. If it's deep enough that the tires will start sinking in, then I'd go Barzo on both ends or a Barzo front Peyote rear combo. I've only ridden the 26x2.25" versions of the above tires so I don't know how the bigger sizes perform.

I’d say typically 95% hardpack with the roots. With the rest being sandy/pea gravel. It’s just the short climbs are typically where the rooty/gravel sections are.
