I will complete my work for the summer in a couple weeks and I will be visiting my girlfriend in West Hartford who will be working to 9-5. I plan on going down on some weekdays but I want to ride while she's at work. i'm willing to drive up to an hour or two for some riding. Any type of XC, however difficult, or even freeriding. Are there any spots that you can think of?

MDC Reservoir on Farmington Ave., Case Mtn in Hebron/Manchester/Bolton, Cockaponset in Chester (Pattaconk Lake), Bolton Notch in Bolton, Shenipsit n Somers, Middlesex in Middletown (Tuesday ride at 6:30 PM, call Pedal Power at 860-347-3776).

When you get here, drive over to Vernon Cycle and ask them about the group rides. There are groups that go out to Case, MDC, Meshomasic, etc, and Vernon Cycles sponsors a lot of them. If they don't actually sponsor a ride, they still know about it and know whom you should contact to get on board.

To tell you the truth, you could just wander around on your own and do fine at these places, but you will learn the areas a lot faster if you go with a group. Believe me, I have wasted a lot of time wandering around looking for good trails.

Bikerag - hippy rides...

Go over to Bikerag.com, in the ride forum, they publish "hippy" rides - those that only a hippy could do, because they are in the afternoon while you should be at work.
