We actually rode down

Pinetos which leads to walker Ranch and nature center. The pics are from the Walker Ranch part, I think nature center is more burned, we didnt go that way. We went up the pavement to the Firehouse #9, not up SanFer. rd.
The trail is still really rideable, just gotta clear some rocks. Not sure if its actually "open" tho. scott

wow

I guess you made it up there! How was the climb?

Thanks for the pics - that sucks about Viper. Hopefully some green will be back by spring.

Guess I missed it, Viper was one of those trails I never got around to trying, looks like probably be a while untill dirt compacts enough for skinny tires. Good photos though, is the last one taken near the top of Pinetos ? Hope not, really looks trashed.

the climb was fun...

middle chainring all the way. took 1hr 15 mins, over 8 miles from placerita. it got tuff towards the top, kept thinking "its just around this corner". got us thinking about getting road bikes. thanks for the directions!
the "firemen" were all playing volleyball when we got there. there was a crew working cleanup near the bathroom at the drop-in to Pinetos. it burned the hill directly behind the kiosk/bathroom. check out the dozer lines going straight up the hill, they must be crazy drivers!
the top of Pinetos is in great shape, as far as the fire goes. just lots of dry leaves on the trail, a few broken branches too. the pics are from half to 3/4 down.

Asking Specifics:

So SFR road on he way up is all burnt & soft, correct?

Until you get just past Viper, then it's not burnt ?

And the top 1/2 of Los Pinetos is unburned ?...

Then the last 1/2 is all burnt & loose... and the canyon road ride back to SFR start is black everywhere ?

.... Bummer ...

Lemme see...

>>So SFR road on he way up is all burnt & soft, correct?<<
Dunno, didnt go that way. Its all burnt, for sure, would assume ashes and powder 'cuz of the truck traffic.

>>Until you get just past Viper, then it's not burnt ? <<

yes, the fire stops at the bathroom/bullitin board/ loading ramp area.

>>And the top 1/2 of Los Pinetos is unburned ?...<<

Yes, just dry , dusty, and full of dead leaves.

>>Then the last 1/2 is all burnt & loose<<

Alot is burnt, there are rockslides on the path in places. Its still rideable, just be careful.

Again, didnt go that way. The fire stayed on one side of the road and then jumped across near Walker Ranch. In this pic you can see the grass of the cemetary to the left, thats near SFR and the 14. To the right you can see green and the frwy, thats placerita. Hope this helps, scott.
