I just found this on ebay. PHIL WOOD 70's Disc Brake Front Hub """VERY RARE""" 48H. Has anyone ever seen one of these?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250553641338&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

I posted this in a couple of fourms in hopes of getting some knowledge about the hub.

How rare is it? Could it be used for a possible SS aplication? Are they worth anything?

If you're going to try and spam this forum, it's a good idea to choose a user name that is totally different from your eBay username. The hub requires a 48 spoke rim, and the only place I've seen 48 spoke rims is on 48 spoke BMX and low-rider wheels. I guess you could lace alternate holes to a 24 hole MTB rim if you could find one. It's worth whatever someone will pay for it. BTW the hub you link to in your eBay listing is a 36h.

Not that it still wouldn't have obviously been spam, but damn, at least make the effort.

Does the double scare quote mean that it actually *is* rare? Oh wait, I mean ""actually is rare????""

What's it worth? So far, $49-something. Good luck with your spammy search for answers!

Wow, that's gotta be quite the shock, finding something on ebay and then realizing that you are the seller.
Back then, just about the only people using 48 spoke wheels were tandem riders. My guess would be that it was for some special, and now obsolete, front drum or disc tandem application.
Now This is a funny thread.............

I am not one that usually gives people a hard time but:

"Hello, Mcfly".....
Yup, something tells me the current high bidder is probably in the Boise area and has the letters m, a and c somewhere in his user name.................
I love you guys. I can be busy all day, and you all police the place like champs in my absence.

I'd lock it, but I'm guessing this'll either die now, or get really entertaining...... :D
Its worth at least $20.000, probably -maybe- $24.000 and it was specially made for the Yeti C26 (you can find that frame on the eBay if you look hard, but dont tell anyone here, because that is outing).
No, no, NO! Not even worth a used 1991 Powerbar wrapper complete with 1991 crumbs.
It should be deleted.
and yet it's still here without so much as a mention of buying an ad or reading a stickie....hmmmm?

Seen the white gold plated version of this hub yet? Now that is """"""""actually rare""""""""""

Not sure if I quite got the number of quotation marks right here. I'm sure someone will roast me for that.
am i the only one thinking this is a standard rear bmx hub that's got the wrong damn axle in it?
i demand a thread pitch count!!!
or at the least a pic of the axle length being measured with a vernier's to confirm it's not a 110!

Good point Stan, I was so enamored with the resounding rebuke, I plum forgot.

OP, buy an MTBR ad, as is standard protocol. Also, peruse the stickies if you're curious as to what this is all about.

I think you're right.

Threading is on the wrong side - given the Phil script - to be a drag-brake tandem hub, isn't it?
