It is unfortunately trainer season where I live. And I need suggestions as to what to watch while on the trainer. I have found that my favorite is to put on a race - prefer XCO, but also watch cross and some road racing. I listen to music at the same time, that way have multiple levels of distraction. Can do an action movie or something like that, but have trouble with anything that you have to pay too much attention to. So looking for your suggestions:

Have specific suggestions for your favorite races on Red Bull TV or elsewhere from the past few years?
Any series or movie recommendations?
Anything else?

I watch pretty much all the mountain biking events on Redbull - XCO, short track, downhill, slopestyle, Rampage. I also watch the hard enduro series. The terrain that those moto guys ride across is unbelievable. If you have Peacock, there are tons of great cycling and sports events. Supercross and Motocross are also great.

I cannot recommend zwift enough. The best thing to watch on a trainer is your head hitting the wall from boredom. Zwift is great for a distraction and mixes up interval training and it is social so you don't feel like your stuck in a room doing nothing. Also the grade changes go well with the resistance and make it feel realistic. Yes the price is higher but I use it and it has helped out with my race season.

I was watching some action movie the other day while on the trainer and I noticed I would speed up when people were being chased. Kind of built in intervals, like the pit bulls that chase you on country roads.

When I Zwift I am just staring at the watt number anyway and pay very little attention to the course.

When on other trainers, I have tried lots of MTB footage, but the switch to narrative based on YouTube really made it hard to watch anything other than Trailpeaks and Nate hills followcamfriday.

I really enjoy workout out to Crit videos, and Norcal Cycling is where it’s at! There are some others that work depending upon the pace. If going endurance pace, some of the EF gone racing, Ted king. And dare I say Vegan Cyclist are good to pass the time.

I sometimes play racing games (Gran Turismo) on the Playstation when I'm using the trainer.

I do the exact same thing. When I need the car to accelerate, I instinctively pedal faster and on the corners I'll slow down the cadence.

The harder the workout the less of a plot it can have. During threshold workouts it's all just noise.
Same here, zone 2 or recovery I can watch and follow Tenet(sort of). Sweet spot and above I can't spell my name without falling off my bike.

Zwift makes a huge difference for me. Unless I'm going to do a structured workout, I generally prefer doing group rides because it gets me reacting to other riders in real time, rather than just focusing on my own power number. Most often, I'll join in the C-bot ride and end up in a splinter group off the front of the main pack.

Group structured workouts are pretty great as well. Suffering along with others makes a difference.

One of the best experiences I had on Zwift was doing the WTRL TTT events. Team of up to 8. We get on a discord voice channel and work through trading pulls. A team captain will DS... He knows the course alerts us to upcoming climbs, their length, and grade, etc. Weaker riders callous when they need to take a short pull or skip and just try to hang on. Strong riders may take double length pulls. Team time is taken as 4th team rider across the line.

Interactive, virtual course, and live conversation/socializing. Yes a bit of really heavy breathing too.

Alternatively the normal road races are a ton of fun too, but no real team action there. It makes for far less tactics, just make selections and sprint with whoever is left.

I run TrainerRoad controlling my trainer for intervals/structure and Zwift for interaction at tge same time. You lose the realism thus way but get the structure.

OR just Zwift when I want easy non structured rides, group rides, free rides, etc. This is often my 60-120min Z2 rides.

My wife does those all the time, although, she is a low A and much of her team is low Bshigh Cs, so it turns into a Sweetspot ride where she and the other strong team mate pull. And others hang on for dear life.

I’m a Zwift Crit racer myself. Love the pain! I’m too heavy for traditional hilly road courses with Zwift physics.
