Video editor for Contour .mov

I am new to the video game. I have a Contour HD 720. I am starting to figure out the mounting issues and want to start editing.

I am looking for an easy to use editor. I would prefer not to convert to another format unless it has other benefits. With my lack of knowledge I am considering AVS4you and Power Director-9.

What do you think the best, cheapest, easiest, fastest... editor is? I know pick any two, you can't have it all.

first of all have you tried the software supplied with the camera,,easy edit software, this is very basic and easy to use, and will give you a general idea of whats involved in editing,
the 2 you mentioned are pretty good, my brother has used powerdirector and really liked it, it's userfriendly so quite easy to use, and it has quite a few functions, so you can clip and crop add titles and back gound music ect.
i have 2 contours hd 720 and the 1080p,,, i use sony vegas platinum 9. this is a great software, but it doesnt recognise the sound of the mov files, you have to convert them to mp4, there is supposed to be a fix for this problem on the sony website but i have never been able to get it to work, i also hear that the new version of vegas, sony vegas10 doesnt have this problem, overall the software is great and real easy to use, and depending on your pc's spec its a fast software to use,
to be honest there are lots of editing software out there now, and they all pretty much do the same thing, so what ever you buy you wont be dissapointed, the only bit of advice i will give would be, look at buying somthing more middle to top end as you can do more with it, if you buy a basic software for say 30-50 quid then you will be limited to what you can do, and as your editing skills progress you will find your self being held back by your software,
look on you tube mate there are lots of great reviews and tutorials on all the various softwares available. do some research and decide whats best for you, there are also lots of free demos available.
do you have a good spec computer, your gonna need a pretty fast processor and lots of memory for high def vid editing,

Thanks for the info. I have been converting the files to .avi using Streamclip then editing them in Windows Movie Maker. Works fine except the converted files take up about 90+ Gigs for a couple hour ride. And that is being fairly selective about when to turn on/off the camera. I looked at Easy Clip but I think it is to basic and does not really do much. I would like to be able to edit with various fades/transitions, some effects, ability to rotate or flip, add music, and????? I am going to look at the Sony Vegas that you like and then decide between it, Power Director, Corel Pro X3, and AVS4you. At this point I am leaning towards Power Director.
Opps almost forgot. Should I get an editor that can handle AVCHD?

I'm playing with the Vegas demo right now. It took me a minute to figure out a couple things, but it's fairly intuitive so far. I haven't jumped into the effects yet, but it has a number of them. I certainly like it better than WMM. I will probably wind up buying it because it seems a lot of folks like it, also.

it depends on what sort of end result you want, i would say if you can afford to then yes, the only reason i went with sony vegas is i have a sony hdr sr12 camcorder, and i wanted a software that would do the avchd files from that,,,,,, i had used pinacle studios software before that, and naturally i looked into the latest version of pinacle, but i fancied a change, as my camera was made by sony and vegas is a sony product it seemed like a natural choice, plus it scored good reviews and was reasonably priced,
you can get vegas as a torrent download if you look arround, but i havnt told you that ha ha ha.
hope this helps, good luck with your choice, i look forward to seeing some of your vids in the not to distant future:) :) :)
