Video editing software?

I'm interested in doing some ride videos and would like some advice/suggestions for the (Windows compatible) software for doing the editing. Free stuff would be good while I see if I'm going to get into it, but please suggest purchasable versions if they'll offer an advantage.

Virtually all have 30 day free trial downloads. They all work pretty much the same. But I'd highly recommend starting with Adobe Premier Elements. If you get serious you could then upgrade to Premiere Pro. You do realize the Windows Movie Maker is already on your computer? It will suffice for any beginner.
