Victoria Gato - has anyone ever used?

Hi,

I was out biking last weekend and one of my tyres had a puncture and unfortunately couldn't be repaired.

I was just looking for a replacement set and came across the Vittoria Gato ones on this site with the weather changing and all that in the UK! - https://sportandleisure.com/products/vittoria-gato-ii-27-5-x-2-1-mtb-tyre-tnt-tubeless-ready.

I was just wondering if anyone has used them before and if they were ok? Also if you have any other recommendations that would be fantastic!

That is a really old tire, hasn't been made in years. Help us to help you:
  • What wheel size and rim width?
  • What bike (so we have an idea of tire clearance)?
  • How much do you weigh?
  • What are your riding conditions (dry only, mud, mostly pavement, only dirt, etc.)?
  • What are your current tires and what would you like them to do better?

As noted by Cary, need some more information to help you out.

The Gato tread pattern is similar to others on the market. More than likely best used as a rear tire with something a little more aggressive up front.
Thank you for getting back to me @Cary and @frdfandc

These are the answers to the question in Cary's response:

The bike is a Sondar Titanium MTB Bike
Size and width of wheels is 27.5 x 2.1.
Wet, muddy off road conditions
95kg weight
The previous tyres are Maxxis High Roller tyres.

Hopefully those help :)
When you say wet and muddy, the default is a mud spike. If your mud is more wet loam (i.e. not sloppy), an aggressive non-mud tire can be used. I would recommend (assuming your rims are 25mm internal or wider) going up to a 2.3-2.4 width tire. There a plenty of potential options. A few:
  • Maxxis Shorty
  • WTB Verdict
  • Vittoria Mota
  • Schwalbe Dirty Dan or Magic Mary (Magic Mary is more versatile, Dirty Dan a true mud spike)
  • Continental Mud King

Sorry for my late reply but thank you for these suggestions - I will take a look at these ones. :)(y)
