Names of trails in the video?
I go there occasionally, but unfortunately it has always been in winter when the trails were not ready.
Next time I go it would be nice to ride, because there sure isn't much else to do there!
The town kind of sucks, you might say.
I wanted to offer up my thoughts on my brief trip to Vernal over Mother's Day weekend. It's worth noting we chose Vernal has an alternative to Moab this year to do something new, the trip distance was almost identical from western CO. First and most importantly, the riding. It was as advertised. We rode nearly every trail in the Mccoy Flats area and it was a great setup. Most if not all trails originate from a central location with a covered picnic area, which was great for hanging with our son as we took turns riding the trails and there were clean bathrooms as well. The trails were narrow, smooth and well laid out. I can't think of a single complaint in that area. We also rode in the Red Fleet area. Although it didn't seem to contain has many miles of trail, the trails we rode were great. That desent off of Jazz is hard to beat. I got a little turned around on Cabin Boy, but a friendly local pointed me in the right direction. This area is a special place for sure.
Another positive was the bike shop, although I only bought a map at Altitude Cycle that seems like a legit shop, Vernal is fortunate to have them around. As far as lodging, we stayed at the KOA as the motels seemed pretty sketchy to say the least. The KOA was a great place to stage your biking weekend at a low cost. The only real negative I could find about Vernal was the dining options, or really the lack of. Although a minor aspect of the trip, it is always nice to hit a great brewpub after a long ride for good food and beers, truthfully at this point, Vernal is lacking in good quality restaurants. Plan on cooking at the campsites and save yourself the money.
