Ventana Forum is Dead; The Bikes Are Too Good

The absence of new threads is understandable. Ventana's are spectacular and ultra-reliable. What's left to say until a newcomer inquires or a new model comes out.

How about some more talk on the 29R hard tails?

How about some talk about the upcoming 6" travel butted frame 29R? Come on, folks!

Let the kvetching at me commence. Bring it on. My X5.32 can handle it.

All I can say is that that I am sitting here waiting for the call from the Aussie distributor to say that my Cosmic Orange El Commandante is waiting to be collected.
Pic's will follow soon after that.

It sure is dead in here though!!!!
Even the Santa Cruz forum is seeing more action.
 :D

I haven't ridden my Salty....

...since Mammoth in September. I'm liking my new career but I really miss my bike.

So...should I order some 5" rockers?

5" Rockers on El Salt.

Absolutely. Order those rockers. More travel in the rear is great. I just got 6" rockers for my X5. Of course without changing my shock it increases it to 5.32", and I don't know what happens on the Salty. I did so on the recommendation of my buddy who did it, and changing nothing else, felt it made the bike more balanced and liked the higher BB. My Santa Cruz Superlight was designed with 4" in back and 3" in front and worked like crazy.

Get those rockers and sail.

Damn, and I felt bad about not riding for 3 weeks! Moving, work and a preggo wife and all!!!

My Salty has the 5" rockers and I love it. With that being said, I wouldn't mind having a 4" Salty to replace my XR Burner.

Different strokes for different trails.

Too few owners? Beats me...

but you are right. This forum is kind of boring.

I just sold my El Salt and am about to pull the trigger on an HH125. Woohoo!

I am trying to step things up here with a taunt, be you all are chiming in saying the opposite of what I thought you would, you've called my bluff.

How about this: What do I do where the cable rub has sawed through the paint? I just didn't see it happening and now.... Sherwood said touch up paint won't work. All I can do is cover it?

I'll have to post pictures of my X 5.32 just to show it's better than all the rest.

Feh. Proper place for Ventana content is in passion. Might I suggest here, as a starting point.

I think it is down to Ventana owners not having to constantly reassure each other that they are riding a great bike. Many other of the forums seem to be full of owners who have to announce they have changed their tyre pressure or some other little thing. Perhaps we should be more sociable and chat about the little things because as Ventana owners we are lucky enough not to have any big issues about the frames to worry about.

Precisely why I started that hardtail thread. We have to find some other things to talk about absent a radical change to our beloved frames and FoShizzle's apparent cure of UGI!

We need more action pics and perhaps more discussion on whats good and whats pants about the parts we fit on our frames.

Agreed. More trip/ride reports and photos would be welcomed. I really enjoy getting to see other parts of the world where folks are enjoying the mtb passion. I usually take a camera with me on rides, but end up having such a good time that I forget to stop and take pictures! I'll have to make an effort to improve on that front.

That is what happens to me. I ride with other Ventana owners at least six every weekend and we have plenty of tales to tell. I have many myself but dont want to become a bore but I think this is what our forum needs to perk it up. What do you think.

Which is more boring? Reading nothing or something that may or may not be of interest? I'd opt for the latter. As such, I'll start posting more ride reports. Going with a group to Fort Yargo this Sunday hopefully, so I should have some pictures Monday to post.

D-Rock, think you can make it Sunday? It would be a good trail to get your legs back under you on the new, improved Salty.

I'll stir the pot

I was told by someone who would know, that Sherwood was exploring the possibilities of building a Horst Link Ventana before DT made the switch to TNT.

LS, the Salty would fall asleep at Yargo. Besides, you know I have church at 1:00 on Sundays ;)

Yep. And quad bearings would deal with the flex. Can I reto it to my X5? I always beleived in the H.L. Sorry guys. And Sherwood could make it better, albeit at the higher price. I'll bet he could geometricize his way around the patent and we could all be proud. Maybe it will be know as the "G.L." The GIBSON LINK". How about two pivots near the dropouts?
Sherwood, I want a commission on that one.

Do you actually think it would be a better ride than that of the current design ?
After many years on Turner frames I think the HL design works better on the drawing board than on the trail.

I agree...

The Ventana forum is pretty darn slow...I am not even an owner yet...the Cosmic Orange Salty (22" with 25.6" TT - I'm 6'5" with a somewhat long torso) shipped from Ventana to Chad last week. Hopefully he will get it today and ship it to me in Houston...which means I won't get it until next week..oh well, and weather in Houston is perfect for riding now. Only thing I am worried about is the whole 3.5" travel with RP3....I weigh 210 lbs so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem. I just got done reading the manual on the DHX Air and it took me back to when I was trying to adjust a 5th Element on a Blur...before I switched it out to a Fox Float AVA R......too many knobs, chambers, etc. that all affect each other. The RP3 simplicity attracts me....I just hope I can get close to 4" travel with around 12-15mm sag.......

I admit, I browse other manufacturer forums just because there are no new posts on the Ventana forum....

Hmmmm...xmas gift - 5" rocker (and I don't even have the frame with the 4" rocker yet)??

I dont' think that's true... he may be in remission...but just wait until after X-Mas. ;)

Maybe we should take bets on it?
