The girls fatbike we purchased came with Vee Snowshoe XL 26 x 4.8. We had our first snow over the weekend and did some riding. One thing I noticed about her tires compared to mine (flowbeist and dunderbeist) is that the snow kept sticking to the Vee tires and packing up between all the knobs. My 45nrth tires didn't have snow sticking to them at all.

I assume the Vee is some sort of different rubber compound? Seems like a bad material selection if that is the case. She kept losing traction because of this phenomenon.

Yes, Vee made a Snowshoe without the right amount of silica in it, so it doesn't really work well as a winter tire, snow sticks to it. As I recall, it was identified by color possibly. Mikesee has more info on it.

I have the Vee tire Avalanche (26x4) with 'pure silica' compound. Snow sheds quite easily on these tires and the grip and traction (including snow sheddding) compared to my other wheelset (45NRTH DILLINGER 26x4 is superior.

How long did they make it like that? This bike is a 2020 Kona Woo.

Maybe they pushed some of the old stock, without the right amount silica, through the system?

AFAIK all of the black Vee tires do this. Any of the Silica compound variants.

The beige/cream colored Vee tires do not. They are the PSC variants -- Pure Silica Compound.

Confused?

Thanks for the clarification.

Interesting that they would sell the black ones knowing that snow sticks to them. Guess I'll be shopping for some new tires.
