V-Brake Suspension Fork Options these days?

4882 Views 15 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  cruso414
I may opt to run V-brakes on my yet-to-be-revealed iPhone Killer bike/frame.

The frame is easy, when you're rollin' this Gangsta' V-mounts ain't nuttin' but a G-Thang...

However, the fork is a bit harder...

What am I reduced to here, vintage WB's and circa 1972 Marzocchi's?

Best currently, easily, fairly priced, suspension 29er fork available?

thnx...hadn't thought of that one...

It may not make the cut though for vanity reasons... an RST on this build... well, it'd be like whatever the inverse of putting lipstick on a pig is.... Like Paris Hilton riding in a busted Pacer.
i have a vintage 2002 marzocchi mx air 29er fork with vbrake mounts if interested.
Hmmmm......perhaps WB could do something up for you? The way their forks go together i wouldn't be *terribly* surprised if it was possible.

Otherwise.....a nice Black Sheep fork would sure look good on there. Finished to match, of course.

I'll have to email you what I secured for it this week...incredible.
How hard would it be to braze on some v brake mounts to a new fork?
Are they all magnesium sliders these days? That could be a problem.
White Brothers Magic

I have the IMV 80 with v-brake mounts on my Moots.

I am running discs, but I wanted the v-brake mounts in case the fork ever ended up on my SS (which uses v-brakes).

Also re: v-brakes generally, if you are building a nice bike that is going to use v's, you really should get some Avid Ultimates. They are substantially better than any vbrake I have ever used. Nice looking too being machined and all...

Is this to-be-revealed bike going to make an appearance at OC?

Here is the fork:

Jealous..that's about the perfect fork for me, but i'd probably want it in 100mm..not that that couldn't be done.. just need to find one.

I'm with you on the Avid Ultimates..I want..Daddy-Like...

My choice of brakes will be dependent on what drive-train I'm running..i'll have option for any drivetrain that exists...but my so-called-geared wheels will feature stans rims, so i'm not sure if I can go V on them...

Also, i've already got a fairly rare version of the Fox G2 fork (one I've never heard of or seen other than mine)...so i'm tryin' to figure if I want to ditch it and go for a fork that'll go both ways...or just have 2 forks...

re: OC - damn thing filled up in like 2-3 hrs..I planned to register at like 7-8am, and it was full...so now i will have to play the waiting list gig..or not at all. Then i was going to sign up for the sylamo challenge, but it filled up in a day....

ps: nice bike. I'm sure I'll have one very similar to it some day.

If you look around you'll find the RST gets pretty good reviews for a $350 fork. The older models aren't any different than the new ones, aside from the V-brake bosses.

but if your not a broke college student like me, you may have more money to spend on something flashy you can brag to friends about.

Nah, not about bragging to the friends....

It's more about lookin' good at the trail-head...

And e-riding the gnarl..
oh totally feel ya. Nothing like rocking a rare and expensive fork with yesterday's technology.

I'm gonna run Paul Canti's on my titanium rear suspension only 6 spd free ride bike. With a carbon seatpost to boot.
Not sure if those ActionTec susp fork units work with standard headtubes, but that would certainly be another unique fork for you to own.
