I was about to purhase an uzzi frame in the next week or so. I've test ridden one it felt great, although the terrain didn't work such a bike.
I was reading an article on shock leverage ratio's - whats and bad. The article basically said that 2.5:1 and less is good and 3:1 is bad. I found out that the Uzzi is 3:1 therefore a bad frame choice because the shock is overworked.
But the Vp free was 2:1 which is good and an uzzi's main rival really. This is another frame i considered. But i wanted the Intense brand.
Are there any people that can comment on this? I thought this was the frame for me, it was great to ride! Is the shock reading to much into it?

Vpfrees get 8.5 inches of travel. For a 2:1 ratio, it would need a 4.25" stroke shock.

IE: vpfrees do not have a 2:1 leverage ratio.

3:1 is fine. Vpfrees and uzzis have the exact same leverage ratio. 3.1:1.

Hell, v10s have a 3.6:1

Thats interesting. I got the vp free info off an article on the internet. Just shows you can't believe everything you read! Also if you followed that leverage rule there are a few great frames that would be bad, The Ironhorse sunday cup being one of them. Cheers for the info though. The uzzi is back on the list.

Please put up a link to this. It's getting comical.

Sundays use a 3" stroke shock for 8" of travel. That's a 2.66 ratio which is one of the lowest made.

Sorry, my mistake the Ironhorse is 2.66:1. The magazine ( MBUK ) was very black and white in saying 3:1 is bad - 2:1 is good. Therefore a lot of frames are bad. The only good one is the Foes 2.1. Its good to see what other people think. My thoughts were three of the most desirable makers in the world can't all make poor frame designs!

Believe me it matters not in the case of the Uzzi VPX, it is one amazing bike, pedals like a XC bike yet hammers down like a DH rig!

Saying that I have ridden other bikes with high leverage ratios and the difference was night and day, I guess it's all in the execution....

Yes that was was i thought exactly. They give the frames a good review. In the Uzzi's case the best uk dh bike, then with another write up rubbish it all.
I spoke to mojo fox suspension guys and asked them their thoughts. They said that most of it was just journalist Bulls**t! So thats me sold Uzzi all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The VPX is the best frame I have ever ridden. I am sure that it isn't the best for everybody due to different styles of riding and different terrain. My build is about 45 lbs so it is heavy, but it still cranks nice. On the DH it seems to match my style exact so I can only say it is the best bike I have ridden for me. By this I mean when I hit humps bumps drops or even stepups there is a constant force to my feet. There has been no feel of pushing over the bars or sinking on the rear. This holds true on pretty rough terrain with large objects. I do think the fram is heavy if you are only going to be on smooth flowy trails though.

That sounds like what i want. I tried a Giant DH Team at the trails i ride and it felt dead to ride. It was hard to get up to speed too. There is a lot of roots and tight technical downhill by me. Also a lot of step downs, drops and doubles. The uzzi seemed to fit the job perfectly and felt nice to ride for the 30 minutes i played on one. It was a trail build not Dh though. Thanks for everyones comments and help.
