After 4 days of impatient waiting, the new XT Octalink crankset & BB shows up. As the pics show, the outside ring of the BB interferes with one of the set screws on the eccentric. I "machined" the washer, but found the allen head will still not clear the BB cup. Am I SOL? Suggestions?

Edit: If I back off the cup slighty to where the notch in the cup is, it will go together but I'm concerned that's not enough torque.

no witty mechanic types out there?

Does anyone else make a splined BB that will match up to the XT crank?
What I would do

is turn the BB cup in until you are satisfied you have the right torque. Mark the location of the washer interference on the face of the cup with a scribe (knife will work if you don't have one and cup is aluminum). Remove BB cup. Use a hand grinder or round file and remove the material that outlined the interference. Deburr machined edge, clean, and reinstall BB cup. Since the thread on a BB cup is a single lead thread, it will turn to the same spot with the same torque as when you marked it. Put the good end of the washer (or new one if you have it) into the indexed area of the eccentric.

I absolutely would not do what you're trying to do by thinning the washer. Either you won't get it thin enough and you'll prevent the BB cup from sitting flat or you'll make it too thin in which case it might not be strong enough to do it's job.

Wondering if the LX ES-50 will interface correctly with the XT M752's? ...it looks to have a more shallow cup profile

just found this.. i think it's a better solution than trying to modify (or weaken) the ES-71 I have

I'm with steiny on this one. You could remove a tiny bit of material from the BB outside ring rather easily, it doesn't look like much would have to be removed. I doubt it would hurt anything.
