UST bead/seal question

696 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  KMA
I've got a Python UST Light tire that doesn't seat on the rim at one particular point. I can rotate the tire on the rim, reinflate, and the air leak occurs at the same spot along the tire. Thus, I can isolate the problem to the tire and not the rim. I've used soapy water and windex to try to create a good seal. I'm also running sealant. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem? Could the bead be damaged/pinched from a big hit so now it's not creating a seal? The problem occured after riding these tires a few times. Thanks for any advice!

Did the tires hold air and seat properly when you first put them on? Did you use a tire lever to install the tires (that's an easy way to damage a UST tire)? Did you take any really noticeable hits while you were riding? Did you try overinflating the tire then letting it sit overnight to see if the tire seats properly? Just a few ideas.
Wanna try this?

Try this. It might work...
1, install a tube in your tire
2, pump it up til you hear 2 pops
3, release only one side of the bead from the rim
4, remove the tube
5, install the UST valve stem back
6, tuck the tire back with 1 or 2 scoops of sealant
7, apply soapy water
8, pray
9, pump it up if you don't have an air compressor (I made it with a floor pump)
10, If you successfully seat the tire bead,
check where's the leakage spot with soapy water
11, lean and rotate the wheel and let the sealant cover the leaking spot
12, thank me if this works

I read this technique on this forum a while ago.
and It works for me even with non-UST tires.
Hope you find this helpful, good luck!
