I am looking to buy my first real mountain/trail bike, and I have narrowed it down to two options:

1. Buy a brand new Prophet 600.

2. buy a used but excellent condition 2001 Jekyll 3000. The Jekyll obviously has the bettter component group, and I could get it for $900 or so. Does this sound like a fair price? A great price? Would I be stupid not to buy it?

Pretty good price .....

....but check it out carefully. Make sure there are no dents, cracks etc. or anything hidden. The 3000 had some pretty good components on it so $900.- is not bad (great?!). Originally it probably went for about $4K. It won't have all the fancy SPV stuff on it, but you could send the shock to Push Industries for their valving mod and it would perform pretty well. It had the Lefty ELO on it which had a few glitches over the years, but the fork is awesome. Leave it unlocked if the ELO part gives up the ghost.... I don't lock mine often and I know of some who don't touch theirs at all.
If it is good, sounds like a keeper.
