upgrading to external style crankset for my 07 Jamis Komodo...

My original FSA Alphadrive is getting a little creaky and old. It is a year old and I'm looking to replace it with something new. Definetely want to upgrade to a newer style external bearing type crankset. Looking to spend less than $150...

One thing that I am wondering also is I am looking to gain a few mm's for a blackspire blackguard inner bash ring that bolts to the granny ring to clear the chainstay. my previous setup was a 68mm shell with a 113mm bottom bracket. the inner guard rubbed on the chainstay before I even had it tightened down all of the way, so I may need 3-4mm of additional clearance.

Just wondering some good recommendations that will fit my 07 Komodo.

What's your current chainline? The external setups usually have a 50/51mm chainline, so you might gain a few mm if your current chainline is less. You might be able to space it over a little more, too, but depends on clearance on the non-drive side and the crank. BTW you have a 68mm width bb shell on your bike, no changing that...or is the Komodo 07 changing frames too? I just got an SLX crank for $130, good stuff for the price.
im not sure what my current chainline specs are...it is the stock setup from the components the bike came with if that helps any...

It's a simple measurement, from the center of the seat tube to the middle ring position (assuming a 3-ring crank setup).
not really all that relevant, but how do you like your komodo? I am looking into buying one
