How easy is it to upgrade my bike to a 27 speed from a 24 speed? I have a Deore shadow rear derailleur.

Not bad, I did the same thing last year. Your rear derailleur should work just have to adjust the limit screw. You need to buy new shifters, chain, and cassette.

Funny, I consider that a downgrade. It's just a few more useless gears to shift through. BTW, you only have to change 1 shifter.
