I've orderd a few times with no problems but now I've had my first return item with them. I ordered a few chainrings & paid for overnight shipping via Paypal but then I got an email that it would ship within 2 days. I brung this up and Mike agreed to refund me $14 & change, the difference between the overnight & 2nd day rate.

No biggy I thought, then when the rings came, they had sent me 2 wrong ones. I called, talked to Josh got the RA# and also asked about the $14 -- No problem he says, he sees the balance on my account & will take care of the refund. Ok I think, its only $14 but this shouldn't be so difficult.

I sent the wrong rings back, get the new rings and remeber about the balance. I checked my Paypal & no refund. I email Mike again about either a refund or put the $14 towards a store credit since I need some tires and his reply is now "what was this refund for, I need some more info please?"

AARGH -- I cut and pasted every email for him...If they need the $14 that bad they can keep it. I'll buy elsewhere.

Sorry to hear that. I have generally had good luck with them, though I too have run into a situation where I order something on the phone with them (to make sure they have it) and then end up waiting a few more days for them to get it. However, when that happened they overnighted to me at no charge.

Now that I think of it, I have sent stuff back (an item I changed my mind about), and they were perfectly cool about it. Refunded my credit card, no problem.

same here, bought my 575 form them and some stuff prior and no problem.

for the record

they were the correct rings for the ra# the person gave me on the phone (otherwise I would have had nothing to return). Mike offered me a refund or store credit today after the previous email. I asked for just a Paypal refund as I already bought tires at a lbs today so we'll see what happens.

I'm sure its just an aberration as UC seems to have good feedback otherwise.

I'll chime in on this one.

I've had exceptional service with them. One of the few retailers who went out of their way to do something extra......and it wasn't just fluff.

That said, I know that's just my experience.

Being as they do a lot of their business internet mail order....things are going to sometimes get messed up. They are most likely dealing with a myriad of customers many with similar wants, needs, orders, problems, etc. It gets confusing. They are human beings making the final decisions.

I'd always suggest cutting some slack to any retailer for minor issues, assuming that they acknowledge the problem. I know some are so big, that the person your're dealing with just has no personal interest....and that comes through.

Anyway, I've had very good service with Universal to say the very least.
I'd both recommend them, and will continue to order through them.

Chalk this one up as a Positive experience.
