When I left CA in 2015, I had a 26’ truck on reserve for 60 days. Two days before I’m set to pick it up, they called me they didn’t have any trucks larger than 20’. I wasn’t happy, ended up finding one 26’ truck 100 miles away. Had to go get it.

I’m surprised U-Haul in CA doesn’t pay people to drive trucks back 😆 If you look at the rental rates to leave CA or any other states at the bottom of their list vs the states near the top it’s damn near double.

Congrats, Tennessee. I think we can all agree that no one worked harder and deserves this more than you.

They’ve got to be good for something other than good whiskey.

When I bought a place in Surprise, it was incredible what the difference was between renting in Yuma and driving the truck back vs getting one in Redlands...if they could get it for me. $350 vs $2700 in 2018

Maybe they meant to just be passing through but got hold of some of that whiskey?

It really sucks around here. We’re all sockless ******* right wingers. And the riding around here sucks. Move on, nothing to see here.

Texas is #2 for 2021. That’s going to be a lot of really disappointed people in 2022.

Not surprising to see the states with the largest exodus. Mostly high tax, oppressive states.

With the explosion of remote work that is happening right now, people realized they could live anywhere and keep their big salaries, like Tennessee, a state that has no income tax.

Left California in 2020. We had to book our shipping container 6 months in advance. Even then the selection was crappy, and when it showed up there was no ramp for loading because they were all being used.
I love that people think places like Tennessee and Texas aren’t intrusive to peoples daily lives. Tennessee is still to this day trying to pass laws to ban gay marriages. Texas has outlawed abortion and weed is literally a felony.

Why do people in the US have such a problem just admitting that they’re ok with government intrusion, as long as it’s THEIR kind of government.

Because the reality is that people care more about their money than almost anything else.

If you stay out of someone’s pockets, they will turn a blind eye to all sorts of stuff.

Which is fine, if you want to move somewhere that your taxes are less, by all means do it. It’s just annoying when people want to act like California and Oregon are the big bad wolfs when government overreach is just as bad in red states.

California makes it hard to own guns, Texas will literally lock you in a jail cell for doing edibles with your friends on a Saturday night. Is one really worse than the other?

Red states need to get off their high horse. I grew up in Kansas so I know exactly how ass backwards right leaning state governments can be.

The reasons people are fleeing certain states has a lot to do with quality of life issues (see: crime, cost of living, education, etc). When a place becomes unsafe or housing becomes unaffordable…. people leave.

TN dropped to number 3 in 2021 and TX moved up to #1. ME, ID, NM, and OR saw big jumps in 2021.

It’s because each party thinks their brand of crap is righteous, and it’s only getting worse.

I live in Tennessee now, and fear it will be one of the last, if not the very last, to get on the recreational weed wagon. Too many old school, religious, conventional types.

Cost of living is nice, lots of house for the money, no state tax is nice, but man... it's a stiff, hardliner, ultra conservative, puritanical group of people. Don't ever bring up evolution in conversation.

Taxes are killing me here in CA. The cheapest gas at the local station is $5.19. My grandparents are both 98 and in poor health. That's the only reason I'm not all the way in AZ. When they're gone, I'll sell both houses in the mountains and the house I grew up in, in South Santa Monica. It sux because I'm a CA native and I don't want to leave. Growing up, all my friends were from out of state, they've all moved back to their home states (desquised as Californians LOL). I tell my wife we're moving back to the town in Ireland she grew up in
