UCI 2010 Schedule - WTF?????

970 Views 24 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  1soulrider
2010 UCI worldcup schedule for Mountainbike is out....we're down to only 6 DH races, and a 3 month "season". :madman:

This is really lame. We should start a petition or something. Why don't they just group the XC and DH events systematically, that way they could organize 8 or 9 races with the same budget, instead of everybody running off in different directions having to finance parallel events? It's not like there is a shortage of venues that can host combined events.

:skep:

i think everyone is missing the bigger news here...WC round in America...let alone the Finals

AND Champery is back as is Val di Sole. I'll accept sacrificing Canberra, Andorra and Bromont for those tracks.

also, its really early on. who says UCI wont throw another event in there.

dont care what you say man, 2010 is gonna be sick.
Two 4x rounds equals fail :(
Am I missing something??

Yeah sorry I was too lazy to delete the others.

www.uci.ch is the official site for info.
If I remember, weren't there only 5 rounds in 2007?

I'm stoked the USA's finally got one... Windham?
wait....the U.S. gets a DH WC round.....and you're COMPLAINING?!?! Also, this place has WC caliber trails and no ones EVER posted about it?
I'm stoked on the WC's being back in the USA............now if Gwinn, Condrashoff, Strait, or Riffle can win on home soil, then he!! yeah..........oh and where is Windham? I've never heard of it.
Theres a Windham mountain here in New York, right around plattekill in the catskills. I wonder if that is the mountain?

From the UCI website:

After an absence of four years, the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup will make its big comeback in the United States in 2010. For the first time, the ski resort of Windham, in the state of New York, will host the world's best cross country Olympic, downhill and 4-cross specialists for the final of the season. This will take place a few days before the World Championships in Mt-Ste-Anne (CAN)

Windham probably doesnt sound familiar to most people from the East. It's fairly new if recall also.

There was a national event there last year. supposedly went really well. and the gravity east series stops by there this year also.

only a few hours from NYC for any of you who wanna make it out here to the east coast next year.
Windham has been around for years as a ski area. It's in the northern part of the Catskills 1 hour south of Albany. Not sure what the biking is like but they must be able to hold a WC event.
I heard very good reports from the DH race at Windham last year, not sure if its up to WC standards.... hopefully with this much notice they'll be able to create an awesome course, even creating sigificant new features if needed.

Since I don't live there, it's just another country with a WC to me...not compensation enough for loosing 2 rounds on the schedule IMO... :p

Seriously, I can see how that would get y'all excited though. So yeah, enjoy!
I course marshaled the DH race at Windham last summer, as round 5 of the NMBS. From what I had heard, the race was sort of a test run to see if lift accessed biking was something they wanted to get into. Every downhiller I talked to loved the course and the feedback was great. This summer they're doing a couple more races - the aforementioned Gravity East Series as well as the Kenda Cup. Here's some photos on my club's website: http://organizations.oneonta.edu/mountainbiking/East Coast Nationals.htm

On a side note, they also had an XC race, short track, Dual Slalom, and Super D. I raced the XC course and it was sweet. There weren't any particularly well-known downhillers, but there were a number of notable XC guys.
Wow, a WC event in NY? I'm so ****ing stoked on that. I have been dreaming of getting to see a UCI WC DH race for a long long time. And now it's just a few hours away. That just turned a completely shitty day into the best day ever.
Will definitely be checking out the race at Windham next year. And hey, with this kind of exposure, hopefully it'll turn into another lift assisted resort in the area to ride at.
