1299 Views 17 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  karpiel666
Former MXer, novice MTB rider. Wants to try DH.
Will be driving, so the closer to Dallas,TX the better.

Would like to take a ski lift up somewhere and ride down. No hills in Dallas.
Will need to rent a DH bike too.

Not sure where to start...

Any info would be greatly appreciated! :)

Whoboy...

I'd turn off your private messaging & email functions right about now.
Try NM or Colorado...Thats the closest Lift access to Dallas.
Keystone, Co or Cloud Coft, NM or Angel Fire, NM, Maybe Silverton, Co
Good Luck. I'd take Don Juan's advice.
You should post a pic of yourself so we can figure out what place would best suite your build. :cornut:

A great place for you to go would be Whiteface Mountain Downhill Park in Lake PLacid, N.Y. (SITE OF THE 1980 WINTER OLYMPICS) Not exactly close for you but we are one of the biggest (2500) vertical lift serviced mountain bike parks.
We have 3 ladies days left this year where all women ride for free on the 1st Saturday of August, September and October ($30.00 savings).
We also rent Specialized Big Hits, full face helmets, chest protectors, etc.
Take a trip up north and escape the heat. Summer temps in the Adirondacks are usually around 70 or so on the mountain.

THIS PAID-FOR ADVERTISEMENT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE LETTERS S - P - A and M.

- Thanks DH Mike!

Cripes!
If you're gonna travel that far, you'd be better off going to Whistler. Lots of chic riders there, so you'd be in good company.
NY state seems a bit much. You can get lifts in NM, CO and CA that are closer than NY state, or as close. UT and likely ID have some too.

AR has some good stuff, but it's shuttles. You won't be able to rent a bike, but a 6" trail bike will get you by there.

You can find some really nice techy trails within 3 hours of Dallas, but the downs are short.

Check the Rogue Posse around Dallas. There are several DH guys in that group. Some may not be, but some can show you around.

Definitely check the AZ/CO area, as CO definitely has quite a bit of terrain open for DH. I'd ask the locals how the mtns are, as some can be a bit intimidating. Since I doubt you want to drive to NY/New England, I can't really offer any specifics. :)

Check rogueposse.net for the local DH scene. We go to Arkansas and Clayton OK for some shuttle riding.
I think you scared her off :madman:
