Tuning XT 760 Cranks

What can be done to lighten Shimano XT Hollowtech II cranks. I replaced the small and mid chainrings with Boone Ti - mainly for durability reasons.

I also replaced the steel bolts on the non-drive crank arm with Ti. What about the chainring bolts? The Shimano site says that they use aluminum bolts, but they seem sort of heavy for Al. Does anyone know for sure?

from what i remember they are all steel.

replace the rings with aluminium ones which are lighter than the standard XT or Titanium - 50g
all bolts aluminium....-20g

lightest possible would be to put some Extralite octaramp rings (109g for the set of 44/32/22). such a crankset would weigh 825g which is already pretty close to XTR. i have done this to some cranks shown below although the granny is a "heavy" 24t of a 5 bolt set and big rings Specialites TA....

Thanks Nino - great info.

what do you think of these SRP aluminum bolts?

Also, you didn't mention replacing the crank arm bolts with Ti - do you recommend that as well?
wasnt it Macsi who did some crazy tuning on cheap LX cranks half a year ago or so? it was incredible

that's probably the thread you're after. i've got it bookmarked and read through it every so often. i'm trying to build myself up to doing it, only problem is the labour would be alot more expensive in australia.
Jeesh dood. Exlax is dirt cheap and guaranteed way more than -20 grams....doh!
Little refresh, didn't want to create a new topic.

Right now I'am thinking about 2 ways to go with my XT HT2:

1. Road cassette and 3 rings at front.
2. MTB cassette and 2 rings at XT HT2. Question:

Would 30T Extralite OctaRamp work on XT HT2?
I know that its 104, but i heard that chain will touch XT Spider ends due to shortiness of OctaRamp 30T. The Ebones ends of a spider seems profiled, when XT are bit more massive at sides.

I want go option 2 and remove 20t mounting places. To do that kind of mod i need to be sure that 30T Octaramp will work. Propably I will use road cassette anyway for training and racing (depending of ground).

Regards
