I see lots of tire threads so I thought why not 1 more.
These are tufo thundero 40mm tubeless ready tires. I installed them in June and replaced the rear today after 3100 km/1900 miles. This is roughly 1/3 gravel/dirt/forest roads and the rest roads. They stay on for my commute.
Overall impressions are great. I use tubes. Easy to install and had no issues seating on 21mm internal width rims. Both new Rear and old front measure 38mm, 40mmlug to lug. Tread depth is 2mm, the old front is worn 1/2 way, rear is almost gone.
I’ve found the ride quality to be excellent. Very subtle tires, almost as nice as my compass grand bois tires. The side lugs are offset enough that they don’t affect cornering on asphalt. Grip well in the rain. A quiet tire and fast. On dirt, hard pack and country roads they corner well, lugs hold in hard cornering but close enough spaced they don’t shudder. Confident braking and grip well under load and speed.
I’ve had 1 flat and that was on the rear last week.
Only area where they suffer is mud.
For tires I bought for $41Can, was more than impressed. Enough that I replaced the rear without thinking of a different tire.
1st pic is old rear vs. new
2nd is used front vs. new.

Thank you @pyze-guy, I'm surprised I didn't see this earlier. That rear wear seems similar to the Bontrager GR1s that have been a pleasant surprise and likely similar tires.

The Speedero from these folks interests me. I have a first world problem of week day and some weekend rides more unpaved but I use by gravel bike for 50-80 mile rides with considerable pavement.
I have the 36mm Thunderos, mounted tubeless. My partner and I both flatted in our first test of them, during an admittedly rugged gravel race (Millau, FR). Her flat was a snake bite that may have happened with any tire, but I had a lug rip off, leaving a big hole. Otherwise I like the tires, but for reference we have both run Conti TerraSpeeds for thousands of kms with only a few small leaks here and there.

I picked these tires over the Pirelli Cinturato H and the Schwalbe G-One R after randomly coming across this post during my research for the illusive perfect all-round tire and been riding them for about a year now. Turns out these tires are perfect in all regards, fast and supple on tarmac and gravel, quiet and very durable! Setting them up tubeless was a breeze too! Thanks for sharing :)
What made you go wtih this over the Speedero model?
What made you go wtih this over the Speedero model?
basically same rolling resistance but better overall grip and versatility.

definitely interested in thunderos. i got a deal on some WTB vulpines and went with those instead. they seem similar...happy with my choice so far. tufos just aren't that easy to get in the US.
