Coming down to Tucson for a week of sun and riding next week. We are staying pretty close to the Tucson Desert Museum. Looking for recommendations for mountain bike rides in that area and other areas that are reasonably close. Also if there is any ride in the Tucson area that is a must do - even if it is a bit of a haul to get to- I would love to know about it. Thanks,

Yep Tmtb will get you set up, let us know what type of riding you are looking for lots of great stuff many must do rides.

But one persons must do is the other guys not worth it ride.

You'll be on the west side of the Tucson Mountains mostly a XC area but there is also Brown Mountain and upper Golden Gate for a more all mountain style of riding.

For years Fantasy Island was Tucson's most recommended ride now not so much. But if you like to go fast it's a great place with all one way trails and no other users to speak of.

The real tech and HD stuff is in the Catalina's La Milagrosa Canyon or Millie is the top shuttle ride this time of year. But it's not all down hill it starts with a hike a bike and only the full on guys are riding all of the DH.

On the down side most of these trails are not on the map or in some cases there are lots more trails then the map shows so having a guide helps. Fantasy and the newer Sweetwater park are the two exceptions. Sweetwater has fun easy trails and is well signed but there can be a lot of hiker and horse traffic there.

Enjoy your stay.

Are you going to be at an RV park? I know of the one that is just south of Brown Mountain.

I live on the west side, just a few miles south of the Desert Museum, so this area is my back yard. Will be working during the week, but I am home around 3:30pm.

What kind of riding do you like to do? There is a lot of different riding in TMP. Some good stair/steppy stuff if you know where they are.

I don't mind doing a little guiding if schedules match up.

We are staying in a house rental. Don't know exactly where, but it is apparently real close to the Desert Museum.

I ride a variety of XC terrain on both single speed and on a 5" full suspension. Will likely just bring my FS for this trip. Fast and flowy is good, technical is good. I like big doable climbs a lot. The quality of the trail is more generally important than what type of trail. I don't really ride AM or DH.

Will be with my wife and 9 year old daughter - so some easy rides will be on the menu also.

I would definitely be up for getting together to ride. I will PM you my contact info.

I just was down in Tucson from Phx this last weekend. i rode the 50yr Trail. Here in Phx I ride SoMo Desert Classic & Mormon/National/Javilina. I found 50yr a fun ride with enough challenge and variation to make it interesting. Tight spots to peddle through, some loose sand, lots of boulders and you can loop it around so you can leave the family for an hour and come back and meet them on the easier trails. Its NW Tucson, Oracle/Tangerine approx
