Have 2010 XT Wheelset with the 15mm front(xc). 2010 Trance X1.
Trying to mount a standard Minion up front and a UST Highroller in the rear. Using compressed air, soapy water and Cafe sealant. Nothing to it, except the block style Cafe valves leak. An experienced friend trimmed the Stan's valves, and they leaked. I realize the Shimano valves are not removable. Can I get a non-UST tired beaded without compressed air? Does Stan's offer a vavle for UST XT/XTR wheels? These wheels have been solid. Surely I am missing something. Much thanks.

I've been able to get a non-UST tire seated using a floor pump on mavic UST rims a few times. But my success rate is about 60/40 in favour of using a compressor.

One tip is to mount the tire with a tube and let it sit for a while to stretch the tire and seat the tire beads. Then, only break the bead on one side of the wheel, remove the tube, insert sealant and valve. Then carefully try to work the tire bead into the groove by hand. I can usually get around 1/2 to 3/4 of the bead seated by hand.

The floor pump has a much better chance at popping the bead of 1/2 the tire circumference on a single side only into the channel opposed to a completely unseated tore bead.

Hope that helps/makes sense.
