Hi,

I've entered the Mega Avalanche this year and I've decided to go tubeless but I seriously lack tubeless experience so I wander if any of you can share hints/tips and previous experience to save me from learning the hard way as I don't have a lot of time. I've bought a selection of DH UST Tubeless Maxxis 2.5 HighRollers, 2.5 Minions and Schwalbe Big Betty's that will be fitted to Mavic EX823 rims and all the tyres have been a cinch to fit and inflate (without the use of tyre levers as I believe this can damage the bead) plus I'll also be carrying a couple of FR tubes just in case.

So any advice on the use of sealants, tyre pressure, repair kits/methods, etc. would be appreciated.

Also I've been thinking about C02 cartridges for repairs on the trail....but is a 16g C02 cartridge capable of inflating a 2.5 tyre to a pressure of 30psi?

i use stans sealant. it seems to be a popular choice. others use home brew sealants which you can probably google or search on this forum.

stans also makes conversion kits for going tubeless. i use the "ghetto tubeless" method. had it for over a year. i do everything from XC to DH and it has not failed me yet. just keep up on your sealant. a squirt every 3 months or so. check your tire pressure regularly. other than that you're good to go.

here is the tutorial i made last summer when i went ghetto tubeless.

Yes, a C02 cartridge easily capable of 90psi on just one pull of the trigger. However, the cold air of C02 will make any latex-based sealant ball up and harden within days. Use a floor/hand pump with room temperature air is much better.
