Its back
Yes I guess its now using old technology XPGs ;)

Better cooling to take advantage of the maxflexs higher current tables and the XPGs higher rating .

heaps better connectors IP67 and nice .
along with some nice lazer etching artwork too .

it has been along to a lab for proper lumen measurement out the front lumens non of these exaggerated claims for on paper lumens

these are the results from the Lab with it using the 1000 ma setting on the maxflex using three mode

High 1713 lumens
med 747 lumens
low 258

and compared to a magic shine tested at the same time

low 200 lumens
high 495 lumens

So it's currently annual light review season in the UK bike magazines, how come they never include any of troutie's lights? - Chris, apart from the bikeradar article, you ever been asked?

Edit: liking the new version :)

Probably a lot of that is my fault .

Singletrackworld have had a 4 led version for 18 months with repeated promises of a review But nothing yet despite repeated mails from me .

The Tester at Bikeradar and all those Mags was using a Lib 2 most of last year and when the shootout was nearly ready I told him about the new Lib so we left it out as no point in reviewing an old model .
He now has a new one and will be doing something soon either in a mag or on Bikeradar.

Similar thing for MBR I missed their deadline but they have one now and are going to do something soon I hope .

Very nice indeed... how does this compare to your 7UP and what would your opinion be on the two doubling up together (7UP & L3).. do you have the figures for the real world 7UP..? CHEERS..

Yummmm... Light porn.

So the new maxflex v5a can handle 6 xpg at 1500ma (for an extended period of time)? I have a light w/ parallel strings of 6 xre (total of 12) using maxflex v3. The heat protection kicks in after a minute when set at 1200ma...the driver is heat sinked well and the case is not very hot. George said I was pushing the driver too hard. This was w/ a 14.8v pack.

Nice work C.

Which in your opinion would be a better match if used in conjunction with the L3 on the bars - a 7up or a mini troutie for the lid?

Can I run the L3 in boost mode for extended periods? 2 - 3 hours say, or is this mode above high for shorter duration downhill runs for example. Wasn't sure if for this the Low, High and Boost is equivalent to a Low, Medium, High setting as on then 7 Up/troutie mini (mode wise NOT lumen wise)

Not at 1500ma, I believe the current Maxflex is rated 1300ma max.

Realistically you're probably better off running at 1000ma unless you have a really good heatsink for the LEDs and the Maxflex. I've bumped up my Troutie 7up to 1200ma just to see how much difference it made and ended up putting it back to 1000ma just because it didn't make enough of a difference to justify the extra heat and 20% drop in battery run time.

I picked up a Lib3 last night at Trouties, it looks as good if not better than the photos.
There is also a 'low power' led on the back between the connector and switch which you can just about see on the photos.

Even better having backed up lab reports tests to verfiy the Lumens of his lights.

There are even quality battery bags being sourced to compliment it even further

ooh, very nice. Thanks for the lumen readings too. I'm not 100% sure of my maths, but does that mean you're losing ~12-15% of theoretical output from the optics/ reflectors (which ones are you using, out of curiousity?). Helpful to know so I can work out what to expect from my 2x XP-G light.

I hate the fact that my MkII Lumen Liberator is an old piece of junk now.

I was thinking of getting a Troute Mini to soothe the deep dark funk I'm in. Are they getting any mods?
