Troubling new sign

Denver Mountain Parks Fillius Park. I've been using this route the last couple years for my Everedead Tour. A couple weeks ago I noticed a new sign post Yesterday I stopped by for a closer look. No Bicycles! How Can they do that without any public input? Are we not considered a user group? Probably part of their 20 year plan. Or dog walkers.
Not much of a trail but it's safer than riding the highway from Bergen Park to Kerr Gulch. Any one know who to get in touch with at Denver Mountain Parks? I want to send a letter voicing my opinion and ask why.

This is a disturbing trend! I remember when you could ride lower Beaver Brook to Lookout Mountain and O'Fallen

Judging by the number of tyre marks passing the sign, folks are still riding the trail.

I say just 'remove' the sign and keep riding. Feck 'em.
Now I'm really pissed...

That's my back yard! I've ridden through there at least twice a week (except in winter) and seen hikers/dog walkers probably 10 times and other bikes probably 3 times. That trail is so rarely used it makes no sense!
pffft....

1. let me know when the denver rangers come out and patrol it.

2. You can also get little red tape and put it over the other two user groups. :)

3. You can ride anyway, and if someone complains, just say "oh, rigid single speeds were not allowed. See here, I have a full suspension bike, and my user group isn't depicted on the sign."

I was under the impression that all DMP were always no bikes.
If that were the case, you wouldn't be able to make a loop on Bergen Peak.

Ignorance is no excuse, but I would just keep riding and claim you weren't aware a bicycle was a MOTOR vehicle.
You could just wear a diaper and tell them you're pushing a 2 wheel baby stroller?
It could also be that it was always off limits to bikes and now there's a sign saying so? In Boulder County OS and City of Boulder, bikes are inherently illegal unless it shows a sign that has a bike on it. Unfortunately, up here, if it isn't signed at all, it's not legal. :(

Isn't part of the Matthews-Winters park (like the Red Rocks trail) part of the DMP? I'm pretty sure that someone at Jeffco mentioned that to me.....
Most DMP's are closed to bikes, with a few specific exceptions (BC, MW-RR, Dedise...). They went through a Master Plan process 2 years ago and there was very little (if any) biker input. The sign is probably just formalizing the rules that have always been in place.
pluck that

:madmax: :madmax: Not being one for poaching, I have officially changed my stance. I too ride this connector - a lot ! It provides a non-highway route to the grocery store and Bergen Park that I can take my kids on without fear of cars.
Perhaps this is in response to the ATV traffic up there. Someone is tearing up the hillside.:nono:
Can we petition for a change?
bah, hate to see that here in Evergreen... I certainly wouldn't mess with the sign, keep riding it and no one will notice or care, mess with the sign and you'll have a DMP ranger posse setting up trail-blocks seizing bikes and doing body cavity searches. Inquire through the appropriate channels, etc.

btw... is there a list of people who live and ride in the Evergreen area? I live up here and
would like to get some local weekday rides going (road, gravel or trail)... I could use some
motivation / pain-sharing this time of year :) If there's no current list and you're interested,
PM me if you live in the area with your name, email address & riding preferences.
I've seen those no motor vehicles signs with the pictures of the motorcycles on them. If it meant no bicycles wouldn't it have said no bicycles......

You would probably be the first to complain if a hiker got in your way on a bike only trail.

Or get a piece of red tape and put it over the hiker part.;)
Here's a novel idea. Why not get in touch with the right person at DMP and find out what's going on and get a dialogue going?

...and maybe get a hold of 9 News or some other press and cite the kids on bikes vs cars on highway situation and point fingers in the right direction.
Don't know about anyone else, but this looks like an obvious oversight of application of common sense to me.
