I'm a newbie to mountain biking and building bikes, but I'm not a newbie when it comes to parts and tools.

I've been trying to install an 01 Super T on my frame. There is a Tank headset installed, but I think I'm missing some pieces. The metal of the headset is in contact with both the top and bottom crown. I know it should not be like this, but what am I missing? There is also a little play between the fork tube and the headset. I've attached some pics...

there should be a crown race press onto the steerer...two races pressed into the head tube (top and bottom) and there should be a top race....which it looks like your missing....with the bearing inbetween the crown race the race in the bottom of the head tube and one between the race in the top of the headtube and the top race....hope this helps

By the looks of it your missing the upper cover and compression ring. Check the diagram and pic I've attached...great headset for the money, I've got a couple of them.

Thanks guys, I knew I was missing something. Can I buy these parts seperately at a bike shop? Or do I need to buy the whole headset?

check with your LBS they might have some extras laying around or they might be able to order them
