Hi all,
I'm fairly new to cycling, this is my first post and I have recently purchased a 2011 Stumpjumper comp hardtail. I used to ride a lot as a kid but am now in my late 20's and want to get back into it again. I'm really loving the XC riding.
Most of the componentry is pretty good, the grips were terrible and started falling apart after one ride so I've replaced them with some OURY ODI lock on's.
The lowest spec gear on it are the X7 shifters and X7 front derailleur and I'd like to upgrade the shifters first.
According to the SRAM site, the X0 and XX shifters are only compatible with X0 and XX rear derailleurs which only leaves me with X9 shifters. Is this true?
Ultimately I think I'd like to go with a 2x10 setup rather than 3x10 and slowly upgrade my components over time as I get the money or if I break anything.
I'm the sort of person who always prefers to go with great quality first time so that it lasts which is why I'm drooling over the X0 and XX gear. I'm thinking along the lines of upgrading my rear shifter first, then changing the crankset over to 2x10 and getting the front shifter with that. Correct me if I have no idea what I'm talking about or am doing things in a backwards order!
So will the rear 10 speed X0 or XX shifter work with an X9 derailleur?

Thanks for any help :)

Hi

Hi ratmonkey. I believe you've misunderstood my question. My current setup is a 10 triple speed using SRAM X7 shifters, X7 front derailleur and X9 long cage rear derailleur. I want to know if I can use X0 or XX 10sp. shifters with these components.
